USB-A? USB-C? USB 3? Thunderbolt? What does it all mean?

Remember when USB just meant that simple, flat USB connector you plugged into your computer? Well, a lot has changed in the 20+ years since USB was created. The computer industry, lead by Apple being all in with USB-C, is now standardizing on a single USB connector for the foreseeable future to make things much simpler. But what is all this talk about USB 2, USB 3, USB 3.1 and now USB 4? What about Thunderbolt (it’s so cool!)? Here’s an article that will help explain all of those questions (and a lot more).
